Peak Design Packing Cubes

Peak Design Packing Cubes

The Peak Design packing cubes are the best packing cubes I’ve ever owned and I’m not one for superlatives. I’ve had to get through two other packing cubes before I found out about Peak Design but better late than never I suppose. These cubes are compressible, water-resistant, have a dirty laundry storage, and are incredibly durable.

We’ve used the Eagle Creek Compression Small Cube and the eBags Small Packing Cube in the past before finding the Peak Design cube. The Eagle Creek cube would be our second favorite as it is the lightest (by about 2 oz) and can compress. However, just like the eBags cube, it has no separate compartment for dirty laundry. The eBags cube was a great starter cube as it was our first try using them but it is about as no frills as you can get.

What is my favorite feature of the Peak Design packing cube? The dirty laundry storage. Previously, I would travel with two cubes of the same size and a plastic bag. As I started to wear clothes, I would put them in the plastic bag until I had enough items to fill up an entire packing cube. I would then move my clean clothes into one cube and the dirty ones into the other. Having to keep track what was clean and what wasn’t and having to move clothing around was annoying. The Peak Design cube easily solves this problem.

The Peak Design cube also has a much easier to close compression zipper than the Eagle Creek cube. Here is a video of the compression zipper in action:

Here is a clip of the tear-away zipper that makes access to the bag incredibly quick:

The only downside (and it is a minor one) is the tear away set up can be a hassle if you don’t need access to the entire bag. If you need to open up the entire cube, it’s great. But if you need to quickly get in and grab an item, it can get a little cumbersome especially if you’ve compressed the bag.

It will be tough for another product to take the throne of my favorite packing cube. Peak Design makes great quality products and I am a huge fan of some of their other items including the Tech Pouch, the Wash Pouch, and the Travel Backpack. All Peak Design products come with a lifetime warranty. To check out my full packing list, click here.
